National Road Rules

Are there any vehicles like Taxis, that are exempt for using Child Safety Seats?

Estimated reading: 1 minute

If a child under 7 is traveling in a vehicle in Australia, they must be properly seated in a Child Safety Seat.  The only exemptions are public transportation including;

  • Taxis
  • Public Transportation Trains
  • Public Transportation Buses, although best practice is considered to be to utilising child safety seats where possible and appropriate.

Warning: Ridesharing such as Uber are not considered Taxi’s and, therefore, are not exempt.  They are considered private vehicles and must be treated as such – in other words, use the appropriate child safety seats for each child being transported.
