Can an ACRI member be listed as an RMS, or other states road agency, authorised fitter?
Being listed as a state fitter has advantages, and we would encourage all our members to gain as many affiliations as reasonable for the following reasons;
- Exposing yourself to different environments is a great way to broaden your ideas, allow create juices to flow and you may be exposed to elements of the industry you otherwise wouldn’t engage with
- Networking – you can attain great relationships in this industry by literally just mingling with different organisations
- Branding and prestige – this is big for your name, like a boy scout – the more badges the better you look
The reality is different sometimes however. RMS and other state agencies do not allow an ACRI member to simply join without engaging in their version of training – just the same as the ACRI network of members only consists of members who have completed the ACRI training course relevant to their industry. For example, a member of the public who’s done the Type 1 Kidsafe course cannot become a member of ACRI simply by joining – they are required to complete a training course before they can be entitled to the benefits.
Now some of the other requirements however can be unattainable for some of our members such as;
- To be RMS listed you are required to have a physical, business location – you cannot operate as a mobile installer
- You must be operating as a business entity, not as an individual or training organisation.
It may change in the future but currently the reality is that in many cases it unfortunately isn’t practical to become a state listed fitter. In Vicroads for example, we are seeing a more welcomed unity between organisations as can be seen here on the Vicroads fitters list’s inclusion of ACRI members “Find A Provider” public page!
